Dinner Review of JAAN which Ranks 100th Best Restaurant in the world!

We tried the degustation menu from JAAN and the only word I can use to describe this meal is ... FABULOUS! Having tried Le Bernadin from New York before (which we felt have similar concepts), we felt that JAAN is better than Le Bernadin (and of course cheaper)!

To start off the meal, they served us beetroot macaroons etc. Apart from the aesthetically pleasing presentation, it tastes wonderful!

How can we not take a picture at this cosy and exclusive dining restaurant?

This is the first dish - WILD LANGOUSTINE with Grapefruit, Peas and mint. The langoustine melts in the mouth and it goes so well with the radish finishing and peas and mint sauce.

The second dish is JAAN’S GARDEN which cleverly made use of different vegetables, fruits and flowers to wake up our different taste buds. I think this dish is creative and i love the sauce that goes with the salad but Shawn thinks that as compared to the first dish, this dish is above average but not extraordinary.

This is the third dish which is my favourite dish - Salmon, Kagoshima pork, cauliflower, miso caramel. The pork is simply... AMAZING! The grilled level, the sweetness goes so well with the sauce!

This is the fourth dish - WELSH ORGANIC LAMB ‘RHUG ESTATE’, Violet artichoke, orient caramel, quinoa. It is interesting how they let you try 4 different parts of the lamb, cooked in 4 different ways.

The cheese selection varies daily and Shawn, being a cheese lover chose some exotic blue cheese which I cannot appreciate. I can only appreciate the different types of bread that came along with it (pic below) as well as the home made blue berry, pear and apricot jam.

They served us this dessert to cleanse our taste buds before the dessert.

An assortment of strawberry, pine berry and marsh mellow to end off as dessert. It is not the best that I have eaten but it is still considered above average.

The melt in the mouth chocolate was indeed amazing with the dry ice to keep it cold

Taking picture with the Jaan Logo to remember this amazing restaurant!
PS: Apart from great food and drinks, this restaurant offers exceptional service. It was just a great experience!

Shake shack

Fast food chain found in many places at newyork. The original shake shack at Madison is under renovation so so try other branches!

The milk shake is very sweet so I did not really like it but I think the burger is juicy and the fries are freshly fried from potatoes. Yummy!

Friedman's breakfast and lunch! One of our best meals near Times Square New York

Fried chicken with waffles! Who would have taught that salty fried chicken would go so perfectly and heavenly with sweet waffles? It's a MUST try. The brunch menu is only served on weekends and expect to wait around 30 mins to 1 hour for seatings.

Friedman's lunch is awesome too! We tried the kale salad, mussels, fish burger and fish tacos! All of them taste great!

Petrossian cafe and boutique.

If you are looking for an reasonably priced breakfast in newyork, you can consider petrossian cafe and boutique. Note that there's petrossian restaurant which is a fine dining restaurant and petrossian cafe & boutique which serves pastry and breakfast. We spent about 20-30 usd per person.

Petrossian is located at:

  1. Petrossian
  2. 911 Seventh Ave, New York, NY 10019, United States

We tried the cappuccino but did not really like it as we find it's too diluted without much coffee taste. The chocolate smell and taste overpowers the coffee aroma which made the coffee less appealing to us.

We tried the petrossian sandwich (salmon and trout) with chips. We like the sandwich as the different layers of ingredients blended nicely when you bite them.

This is beetroot soup with bread. You can choose to put cream into the soup to make it creamy. Dip the bread into the soup and woohoo! It tastes great!

The beef burger taste pretty great with the sauce!

Last but not least, how can we not take a  selfie?

Best bagel and coffee as your breakfast place in New York City

After researching on the places to eat, we decided to try best bagel & coffee which is highly recommended by the locals and tourists as a breakfast place.

It is located at:
  1. Best Bagel & Coffee
  2. 225 W 35th St suite A, New York, NY 10001, United States

The cafe is small and most people opt for takeaway. The queue is extremely long and we even overhead a women telling his guy Friend that he would never regret queuing for the bagel  The price is reasonably affordable at about 5 usd per bagel

We tried cheese and egg bagel and it was quite a big disappointment. We have had better bagel before and given the rave about the bagel, we really expected more.

Having said that, we also realised that most people are having the savory baegal such as cream cheese with salmon. If we have a chance, we will drop by there again and update the blog once we have done that.

We tried the plain, everything and onion bagel and I personally like the onion bagel the most while Shawn likes everything flavor bagel.

Tried best bagel & coffee before? Share with us what you think about the bagel!

Magnolia bakery cup cakes in United States - one of the must go dessert place when you visit New York!

After shopping and dinner at halal guys (one of the famous place to have cheap and good dinner at newyork. We had chicken over rice and it was AWESOME. Put more sauces but avoid the hot sauce as it's really really spicy! Try it for yourself if you have a brave heart!), we decided to drop by magnolia bakery for dessert. It's the bakery that made cup cakes really popular in New York. There are several branches around. Check out http://www.magnoliabakery.com/locations/

We went to the branch at:

Rockefeller Center

1240 Avenue of the Americas at 49th Street
New York, NY
Tel.: 212.767.1123
Store Hours: M-Th: 7am-10pm
F: 7am-12am / Sat: 8am-12am / Sun: 8am-10pm

This is how it looks like from the outside.

We had a caramel cake, cup cakes and also ice cream sandwiches.

I personally find it too sweet and I cannot finish the whole cake on my own. I would suggest sharing so that you would not feel like you have an overdose of sugar. I find the cup cakes better than the cakes and ice cream sandwiches. The cup cakes are soft and you experience different layers of taste when you eat them. The cream on top of the cupcake is not too sweet and it does make you want to eat more when you finish the first cup cake.

Just down the road, you will reach a park where you can sit down and enjoy your dessert.

Had magnolia bakery before? Share with us your experience as well!
